Rodgers doesn't want 'farewell tour' with Packers in 2021
Aaron Rodgers could leave the Green Bay Packers next year, but the reigning MVP won't treat this season as if it were last with the franchise.
"I don't want a farewell tour," Rodgers said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky. "I don't know what's going to happen after the season, but I'm going to enjoy it with the right perspective, for sure, and not look at it as I'm getting through this. I'm going to enjoy the hell out of all of it."
Rodgers called his future "a beautiful mystery" in January prior to last season's NFC title game, which took place just months after Green Bay drafted first-round quarterback Jordan Love.
Green Bay ended up losing the conference final to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Rodgers continued to leave his future up in the air in the following months.
"The reason I approached it like that is I just knew when the (Love) pick was made that the clock had started, for sure," Rodgers said. "And I thought unless there was something in the season that really made me feel like I'm going to be here past 2021 that maybe this would be my last year."
The 37-year-old held out of mandatory minicamp but eventually reported for training camp after inking a new deal that is expected to give him control of where he'll play in 2022.
"I didn't want to be going into a year ... as a lame duck," the signal-caller added. "I didn't think that was fair to what I accomplished and what I mean to this team, and nothing really changed in that regard."
Rodgers is entering his 17th season with the Packers, which tops Bart Starr and Brett Favre for most in franchise history.
Green Bay has reached the NFC Championship Game in back-to-back seasons but failed to advance to the Super Bowl after losing to the San Francisco 49ers and Buccaneers.
