Panthers, Anderson ink 2-year extension reportedly worth $29.5M

The Carolina Panthers signed wide receiver Robby Anderson through the 2023 season after agreeing on a new two-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

The pact is worth $29.5-million and includes $20.5 million in guaranteed money, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Anderson, who was set to become a free agent after the 2021 season, posted a career-high 1,096 receiving yards in his first year in Carolina last season. He also led the team with a career-best 95 receptions on 136 targets.

One of the NFL's top deep threats, Anderson saw his yards per catch drop last season in comparison to the 2019 campaign (15 to 11.5). However, the receiver improved his catch percentage from 54.2% in 2019 to 69.9% in 2020.

The 28-year-old joined the Panthers on a two-year, $20-million contract last year after spending his first four NFL campaigns on the New York Jets.

The new extension is a win-win scenario, as Carolina keeps one of its top wideouts around for at least a few more years at a relatively low cost and the former undrafted pass-catcher will become a free agent and sign his fourth NFL contract at just age 30.
