Mahomes beats out Donald for No. 1 in NFL Top 100
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes grabbed the No. 1 spot in the NFL Top 100, edging out Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald.
This is the first time Mahomes has topped the NFL Network list, which is voted on by players. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Donald were No. 1 in the previous two editions. Quarterbacks have now earned the top spot in five of the last six seasons.
Mahomes finished third in MVP voting last year after posting a 14-1 regular-season record. He tossed 4,740 yards and 38 touchdowns against just six interceptions while helping the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl for the second straight season. Mahomes has now been in the top five of the NFL Top 100 each year since becoming Kansas City's starter in 2018.
The second-highest-ranked quarterback this year was Green Bay Packers passer Aaron Rodgers, who won his third career MVP award in 2020 after topping the league with 48 touchdown passes.
Reigning Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady, the only player to be voted No. 1 multiple times since the list was introduced in 2011, ranked seventh in 2021 after a remarkable debut campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
