Lions release Jamie Collins
The Detroit Lions released linebacker Jamie Collins on Tuesday, the team announced.
Detroit began fielding trade calls for the former Pro Bowl defender last week, but the team wasn't able to finalize a deal. With trade talks ongoing, Collins was held out of last week's practices and didn't play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
Collins, who led the Lions with 101 tackles in 2020, amassed 10 tackles and one quarterback hit while starting Detroit's first two games this season.
The 31-year-old can still provide depth for a relatively low price to any front seven looking for a defender with plenty of NFL experience. The Southern Miss product will make $8.8 million from the Lions this year, according to ESPN's Field Yates.
Collins, a former second-round pick, started his career with the New England Patriots, where he enjoyed two different stints (2013-16, 2019), and he also played for the Cleveland Browns (2016-18).
