Giants' Barkley reportedly suffered low ankle sprain, Jones has concussion
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is believed to have suffered a low ankle sprain in Week 5, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Barkley, who left his team's 44-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys prematurely Sunday and didn't return, is expected to be week-to-week and he's unlikely to play in Week 6, Rapoport adds.
The superstar rusher turned his ankle and was carted to the locker room in the first quarter. His ankle was significantly swollen as he exited.
Barkley wasn't the only starter on the Giants' offense to leave Sunday's contest earlier. Quarterback Daniel Jones was ruled out in the second quarter after suffering a concussion.
Jones took a helmet-to-helmet hit near the goal line. He was wobbling while attempting to walk off the field and needed to be carted to the locker room. Mike Glennon replaced him, finishing the evening with 196 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions on 16-of-25 passing.
Jones went 5-of-13 passing for 98 yards with 28 rushing yards before exiting.
The 24-year-old has been using his legs to great effect this season. He was leading the Giants with 188 rushing yards and two touchdowns entering Week 5.
New York also lost wide receiver Kenny Golladay to a knee injury. The Giants Week 5 without two of their other top receivers, Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton.
Golladay said postgame that he hyperextended his knee in the first quarter, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
