Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair issued an apology Tuesday for making an anti-Asian remark during a team charity golf tournament in May.
"My comments at the event last May included an inappropriate choice of words," McNair said in a statement, according to Michael Silver of Bally Sports. "I immediately apologized to people who approached me then and I apologize again now. I know how important it is to choose my words carefully. I would never want to offend anyone."
Those in attendance at the event said McNair told the crowd they couldn't get together in 2020 "because of the China virus."
McNair has been the chairman of the Texans since 2018. He previously served as vice chairman with the club.
