New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston suffered a knee injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that looks to be "significant," head coach Sean Payton said Sunday,

Winston was carted off the field in the first half and later taken for an MRI, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. Replacement passer Trevor Siemian threw a touchdown in relief to help New Orleans secure a 36-27 win over Tampa Bay.

Winston went down after his left leg bent awkwardly while Buccaneers linebacker Devin White tackled him.

The former No. 1 overall pick, who spent the first five seasons of his career in Tampa Bay, was 6-for-10 for 56 yards and a touchdown before exiting.

Winston is in the midst of his first full campaign as the Saints' starting quarterback. He entered the game with a 4-2 record, 13 touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 102.4 passer rating, which would stand as a career high.

Siemian completed 16-of-29 passes with one touchdown and zero interceptions to finish the affair. Payton said he would've tapped Siemian to replace Winston even if Taysom Hill was healthy, according to NOLA.com's Amie Just. Hill missed the contest with a concussion.

The injury didn't stop Winston from celebrating the victory in the locker room while on crutches:
