Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is taking full responsibility for his lack of effort on the crucial play that resulted in a Philadelphia Eagles defensive touchdown Sunday.

Bridgewater has received criticism for not trying to tackle Philadelphia cornerback Darius Slay near midfield during his long fumble return against Denver. The defender recovered the ball after Broncos running back Melvin Gordon lost it on a fourth-and-1 and returned it 83 yards for a touchdown, extending the Eagles' lead to 27-13 entering the fourth quarter.

"Rewatched it today as a team. Coach (Vic Fangio) pointed it out. He said, 'My effort had to be better there.' And I totally agree," Bridgewater said of the play Monday, according to DNVR's Zac Stevens.

"That's not the type of tape that I want to put out there. It's one of those situations where you get pissed after you watch it because you know how much this game means to you. You know guys out there trying to make a play.

"You feel like you got a little help running toward the sideline to try and force a cutback, but in real time it feels like everything happening fast," Bridgewater added. "I'll just force a cutback, but when you slow it down, it's like, 'Man, just give more effort.' You watch it and you walk away from it pissed at yourself at the effort. Credit Slay, he made a great play, also."

"I would have liked to see Teddy at least make a play at the guy," Fangio said, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper.

Bridgwater finished the game with 226 yards and no touchdowns on 22-of-36 passing. Denver's defense also struggled versus Philly, allowing 214 rushing yards (5.4 per carry).

The Eagles beat the Broncos 30-13, dropping Denver to 5-5.
