Sanders out for Week 17 with broken hand, won't go on IR
Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders will miss Sunday's game against the Washington Football Team due to a broken hand, but he won't be placed on injured reserve, head coach Nick Sirianni announced Monday, according to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
"(We're) hopeful we can get him back at some point this season," said Sirianni.
Sanders was unable to finish Sunday's win over the New York Giants due to the hand injury and left the stadium in a soft cast, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The 24-year-old recorded seven carries for 45 yards before exiting.
Meanwhile, Jordan Howard underwent an MRI after suffering a stinger against the Giants. Sirianni said the Eagles are hopeful the veteran will be ready to go for Week 17.
The Eagles have leaned on Sanders heavily throughout their recent three-game win streak. Sanders rushed for 296 yards over that stretch and 120-plus yards in each of the last two games before Sunday's contest.
Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell will lead the backfield if Howard joins Sanders on the sidelines.
