Washington places Gibson on COVID list ahead of Eagles game
The Washington Football Team placed running back Antonio Gibson and guard Ereck Flowers on the COVID-19 list ahead of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced Friday.
If Gibson is unable to play, Jaret Patterson and Jonathan Williams will lead the NFC East club's backfield. Meanwhile, Jamil Douglas could step in for Flowers.
Gibson leads Washington in rushing yards (891) and rushing touchdowns (six). He is also third on the team in catches (41) and fifth in receiving yards (289).
Washington enters Week 17 with just a 7% chance of earning a wild-card spot amid their three-game losing streak, according to FiveThirtyEight.
Ron Rivera's squad needs to win its last two games and hope for significant help to beat out teams like the Eagles, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, and Atlanta Falcons.
