Report: Patriots sending Winovich to Browns
The New England Patriots are trading pass-rusher Chase Winovich to the Cleveland Browns for linebacker Mack Wilson, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
A third-round pick in 2019, Winovich showed promise early in his NFL career by registering 5.5 sacks in each of his first two campaigns. However, he fell out of favor last season as he failed to earn a start or register a sack across 13 games.
Winovich's playing time on defense also decreased from 58% in 2020 to just 14% in 2021, though he was still a frequent special teams contributor.
Wilson's arc with the Browns follows a similar pattern. The 2019 fifth-round linebacker started 14 games as a rookie but hasn't seen the field as much in recent years. His snap count dropped to a career-low 21% last season as he fell behind Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Sione Takitaki, and Anthony Walker.
