Nagy aims to use Bears experience to better himself, Chiefs
Matt Nagy hopes his time with the Chicago Bears will prove useful in his new adventure with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Nagy's four-year tenure as head coach of the Bears came to an end this offseason after he posted a 6-11 record in 2021. He returned to Kansas City to be its quarterbacks coach, a job he previously held from 2013-2015.
"I want to use my experiences in Chicago to help me be better here for our team here in Kansas City," Nagy said Thursday, according to Patrick Finley of The Chicago Sun-Times. "There's a little bit of humility you have to have to do this."
The 44-year-old burst onto the scene as a first-year head coach with the Bears in 2018. He led the 12-4 club to a postseason appearance and was named Coach of the Year. However, the Bears were unable to finish better than .500 in each of his three final seasons.
Nagy believes the lessons learned from those ups and downs have enabled him to put things "into perspective."
"In life, for me, a lot of my failures that I've had, I've tried to use to (the) best of my ability to make me better," he added.
Nagy is reunited with head coach Andy Reid, whom he worked under with the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Nagy also served as Patrick Mahomes' offensive coordinator during the quarterback's rookie season in 2017, though Mahomes hadn't yet become the full-time starter.
