Dolphins fire DC Josh Boyer

Miami confirmed the change Thursday, adding that the franchise also parted ways with safeties coach Steve Gregory, outside linebackers coach Ty McKenzie, and assistant linebackers coach Steve Ferentz.
The moves come on the heels of a disappointing 2022 campaign for the Dolphins' defense, which ranked 24th in points allowed and 18th in yards - down from 16th and 15th respectively in 2021. Miami, which led the AFC in blitz plays defensively, also forced only 14 takeaways, tied for the second-worst mark in the NFL.

Boyer, 45, was one of the few coaches to return to the Dolphins in 2022 after the team overhauled its staff in the offseason while bringing in first-year head coach Mike McDaniel. Boyer initially joined Miami as a defensive pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach in 2019 before being named defensive coordinator in 2020.
