Report: Chargers promoting Ansley to DC after Hill leaves for Dolphins
Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill is leaving to become the Miami Dolphins' secondary coach, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The Chargers plan to promote Derrick Ansley to replace Hill, per Pelissero.
Ansley served as L.A.'s secondary coach for the last two seasons after a two-year stint as Tennessee's defensive coordinator.
The Chargers had the league's seventh-best pass defense this season, allowing 200.4 yards per game. Ansley will be tasked with righting the Bolts' rushing defense after the team allowed 145.8 yards per contest, the league's fifth-worst mark.
Hill, 44, will join new Miami defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, whom he worked under with the Denver Broncos. Hill joined the Chargers in 2021 after spending 2019-2020 as Fangio's defensive backs coach.
Additionally, L.A. is promoting Tommy Donatell from assistant secondary coach to replace Ansley as the secondary coach/pass game coordinator, Pelissero reports.
