Chiefs promote Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator
The Kansas City Chiefs promoted quarterbacks coach Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator, the team announced Friday.
Nagy, who rejoined Andy Reid's staff last offseason, replaces Eric Bieniemy after the latter took the offensive coordinator post with the Washington Commanders last week. Bieniemy served as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator for the previous five seasons, with his unit ranking first in scoring on two occasions.
Nagy's promotion will mark his second tenure as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator. He previously held the job in 2017 when Kansas City ranked sixth in scoring and fifth in yardage.
The 44-year-old also served as head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2018-21, putting up a 34-31 record. He was named Coach of the Year after a 12-4 record in 2018 but failed to get above the .500 mark over his next three years in charge.
The Chiefs are coming off their second Super Bowl championship in four seasons after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 earlier this month.
