Report: Bears continue spending spree with $72M Edmunds deal
The Chicago Bears can't stop adding playmakers.
Chicago is signing former Buffalo Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to a four-year, $72-million contract that includes $50 million guaranteed, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Edmunds, a two-time Pro Bowler, is the latest standout linebacker to join the Bears. Chicago also reportedly agreed to a three-year, $19.5-million deal with former Philadelphia Eagles defender T.J. Edwards on Monday.
The Bears, who entered Monday with the most salary-cap space in the NFL, also bolstered their offensive line. They reportedly gave a three-year, $30-million pact to guard Nate Davis, who started 54 games with the Tennessee Titans.
Edmunds, 24, spent the last five seasons with the Bills. The 2018 first-round pick has averaged 129 tackles, eight pass breakups, and one interception per 17 games played throughout his career.
Chicago ranked dead last in points allowed last season despite hiring defensive-minded head coach Matt Eberflus. The Bears, who went 3-14, traded All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith to the Baltimore Ravens midway through the campaign.
Chicago's free-agent additions come days after the team traded the first overall pick in next month's draft to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a package that included two first-round selections and star wide receiver D.J. Moore.
