Lamar says he requested trade from Ravens in early March
Quarterback Lamar Jackson requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens on March 2, the passer said in a series of tweets Monday.
The Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson this offseason. Baltimore can trade Jackson to another club if he signs the tender. The deadline for franchise-tagged players to agree to long-term deals is July 17.
Despite Jackson's tweets, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he's confident Jackson and the franchise will come to an agreement.
"I haven't seen the tweet. It's an ongoing process, I'm following it very closely, just like everybody else is here, and I'm looking forward to a resolution," Harbaugh said Monday at the NFL owners meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. "I'm thinking about Lamar all the time, thinking about him as our quarterback. We're building our offense around that idea. I'm just looking forward to getting back to football, and I'm confident that's gonna happen."
Jackson, 26, is one of the league's most electric playmakers under center and would be an upgrade for most NFL franchises. Since being selected with the 32nd pick at the 2018 NFL Draft, the dual-threat quarterback has made two Pro Bowls, earned one All-Pro nod, and unanimously won the league's MVP award in 2019.
The Louisville product has put up 12,209 passing yards and 101 passing touchdowns against 38 interceptions in 70 career appearances while posting a 45-16 record as a starter. He's also added 4,437 yards and 24 scores on the ground. His 1,206 rushing yards in 2019 are the single-season record for a quarterback.
