Dotson: Bieniemy has 'brought culture' to Commanders
Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson is impressed by what he's seen from new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
"I feel like he's brought culture to our team," Dotson said, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. "He's brought a sense of energy, a sense of urgency. It's been really good just being able to learn from him and just get familiar with the things he wants us to do and the things we want to do."
The Commanders hired Bieniemy this offseason. The 53-year-old spent the previous 10 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, who boast one of the NFL's premier offenses with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Bieniemy - who will call plays for the first time in his NFL career in Washington - was Kansas City's offensive coordinator from 2018-22 under head coach Andy Reid.
Washington hasn't had a winning season since 2016, having posted a 22-27-1 record over the last three campaigns with head coach Ron Rivera. It went 8-8-1 last season and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
The Commanders have struggled at the quarterback position, with the team starting 12 different QBs in the last five seasons. Washington is turning to 2022 fifth-round pick Sam Howell under center in 2023.
"Once I knew we had EB, I was kind of watching Kansas City film and kind of seeing what they were doing," Howell said recently, according to Bobby Bancroft of The Associated Press. "Obviously, I watch the film and I think Patrick does a heck of a job, and he excels on extending the play and making those off-platform throws."
