The NFL announced Friday that it suspended New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara for three games for his role in a fight outside a Las Vegas nightclub in 2022, according to Albert Breer of TheMMQB.

Kamara reached a plea agreement in July and no longer faces a felony charge for the incident that took place before the Pro Bowl in February 2022.

The 28-year-old addressed the incident to the media on Friday before the suspension was announced.

"I was completely wrong. I embarrassed the Saints, I embarrassed my family and my mother. I embarrassed myself, embarrassed the city, and the shield, obviously, embarrassed the NFL," Kamara said, according to NFL.com.

The 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year, Kamara has earned five Pro Bowl berths and two second-team All-Pro nods since New Orleans drafted him in the third round. He's topped 1,300 scrimmage yards each year in the NFL. The Tennessee product has racked up 5,135 yards (4.5 per carry) and 49 touchdowns rushing to go along with 430 receptions for 3,753 yards and 22 TDs in 88 career games.

The Saints will face the Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers, and Green Bay Packers in their first three games of the season. Kamara will be eligible to make his 2023 debut at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 1.

With Kamara unavailable to start the campaign, the Saints are expected to rely on veteran running back Jamaal Williams, who joined the club this offseason, and third-round rookie Kendre Miller. New Orleans is 3-7 in games without Kamara over the course of his career.

Cornerback Chris Lammons, who was involved in the incident with Kamara, was also suspended for three games. Lammons signed with the Indianapolis Colts last week.
