Bears DC Alan Williams resigns to focus on 'health and family'
Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned from his position Wednesday due to health reasons, a team spokesperson confirmed to ESPN's Courtney Cronin.
"I am taking a step back to take care of my health and family," Williams said in a statement. "I appreciate the opportunity to work with the Chicago Bears, a storied NFL franchise with a rich history."
Williams added that he plans to return to the NFL once he's addressed his health.
A Bears spokesperson also said rumors that Halas Hall was raided were false and that police hadn't been to the facility in connection to Williams.
The former Bears defensive coordinator was absent for last Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after leaving the team due to personal reasons. Head coach Matt Eberflus served as the defensive coordinator in the 27-17 loss.
Williams was in his second season as Chicago's DC.
