Burrow reached out to Rodgers about calf injuries before MNF win
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said he reached out to New York Jets signal-caller Aaron Rodgers last week regarding calf injuries before he suited up for Monday Night Football.
"He's dealt with calf issues his whole career, and (I) wanted to use him as a resource and get his thoughts, what he might have done," Burrow said, according to ESPN's Ben Baby. "He's been through it, done that. And he was great about it."
Burrow was listed as questionable heading into Cincinnati's game versus the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3 after aggravating a calf injury in Week 2. The 26-year-old, who ultimately helped the Bengals edge the Rams for their first win this season, originally suffered the ailment at training camp.
Rodgers has battled multiple calf injuries throughout his career, mostly recently in May during his first organized team activities with the Jets. The four-time NFL MVP praised Burrow during an appearance Tuesday on "The Pat McAfee Show" and revealed that he texted the Bengals star after the Rams matchup.
"I give Joe a lot of credit," Rodgers said Tuesday. "Just for him to tough it out, I don't think that people realize how much pain and limited mobility he was in. But for him to gut it out last night and to make enough plays to win, like I texted him, that's what great competitors do. They show up and play through the pain and don't make it a big deal."
Burrow completed 26 of 49 pass attempts for 259 yards in Week 3 with no touchdowns and one interception. The 2020 No. 1 pick is happy he didn't suffer any setbacks against Los Angeles.
"It'll get better each week I don't have a setback," Burrow said of his injury Wednesday, according to Kelsey Conway of Cincinnati Enquirer. "It was big to get through Monday without having any setbacks. That means it will be stronger this week. ... All you can do is rest it and take time. But I'm gonna continue to play, continue to practice, and it'll get stronger through the year."
