Raiders release Chandler Jones

The Las Vegas Raiders are releasing veteran pass-rusher Chandler Jones, the team announced Saturday.

Jones was arrested Friday in Las Vegas on accusations of breaching a domestic violence temporary protection order. The Raiders said in a statement Friday that the team is "hopeful that Chandler Jones receives the care that he needs."

The 33-year-old has been away from the team facility for weeks. He missed Las Vegas' first three games this year while dealing with what the club described as a "private" issue.

There has been growing concern for Jones' mental health due to his online behavior, notes W.G. Ramirez of The Associated Press. Jones posted on social media Monday that he was taken to a hospital against his will last week by the Las Vegas Fire Department before being transferred to a behavioral health facility.

The four-time Pro Bowler has strongly criticized the Raiders on social media. Jones, who's said the team hasn't allowed him to play this year, recently suggested in since-deleted posts that he no longer wants to play for Las Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. The Raiders placed him on the non-football illness list on Sept. 20.

Earlier this month, Jones said the Raiders' front office sent someone from the city's crisis response team to his home.

Jones joined the Raiders during the 2022 offseason on a three-year contract. He amassed 4.5 sacks in his first season with Las Vegas.
