Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a back injury during Sunday's 21-17 win over the New England Patriots.

Garoppolo sustained the ailment in the second quarter and was replaced by Brian Hoyer after halftime. Garoppolo left the stadium in an ambulance, according to Heidi Fang of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The 31-year-old was taken to hospital for precautionary tests, as the team wanted to "err on the side of caution," a source to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Garoppolo, who signed a three-year contract with the Raiders during the offseason, completed 14 of 22 pass attempts for 162 yards and one touchdown against one interception before exiting the game with Las Vegas up 13-3.

Injuries have been an issue for Garoppolo, who hasn't played a full season since 2019.

Hoyer also joined the Raiders this past offseason after spending the last three campaigns with the Patriots. The 38-year-old was 6-for-10 passing with 102 yards versus New England on Sunday.
