New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard was a healthy scratch for Friday's 34-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Head coach Robert Saleh said postgame that it was his decision to sit Lazard.
"There's things that we all need to get better at, including him," Saleh told reporters, including CBS Sports' Josina Anderson. He said that parts of the veteran wideout's game "need to get better."
"I don't think he's played up to his standard," Saleh added.
Lazard signed a four-year, $44-million deal with the Jets this offseason after spending the first five years of his career with the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The 6-foot-5 wideout has struggled to produce while Rodgers has been sidelined due to an Achilles tear, catching just 20 passes for 290 yards and one touchdown this year.
The Jets got a look at some of their other receiving options on Friday, including Jason Brownlee and Xavier Gipson.
Lazard had played at least 77% of the team's offensive snaps in every game before playing 65% in last week's 32-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He finished that contest with one target and no receptions.
The New York offense, and particularly its passing game, has been inefficient all season. The club ranks No. 30 in total yards per game (270.3), passing yards per contest (170.5), and scoring offense (15 PPG).
Quarterback Zach Wilson was also inactive after being benched for veteran Tim Boyle.
