NFL executive: Goodell doesn't have stance on 'tush push' despite report

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell doesn't have a stance on the "tush push" play, league executive Jeff Miller said on a conference call Thursday, according to Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein.

A report from earlier in December stated that Goodell wanted the play permanently banned.

The play is expected to be one of the most discussed topics among owners and the league's competition committee, alongside hip-drop tackles, at league meetings next week, Epstein adds.

A potential rule change wouldn't come into effect until the 2024 season.

The Philadelphia Eagles popularized the play in 2022. The competition committee considered restricting or eliminating the "tush push" in the offseason before the 2023 campaign but elected not to.

The Eagles had successfully picked up first downs or touchdowns using the play on over 85% of their attempts this season entering last week.
