Stroud in concussion protocol as Texans ravaged by injuries in loss to Jets

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is in concussion protocol following the team's 30-6 loss to the New York Jets, head coach DeMeco Ryans announced Sunday.

The signal-caller was hit after releasing a pass late in the game and hit his helmet hard against the turf. He didn't return to the contest.

Wide receiver Nico Collins also didn't return after sustaining a calf injury. Collins, the team's top passing option, exited the game with just one catch for 13 yards. Tight end Brevin Jordan finished as the team's leading receiver with 35 yards on three receptions.

Noah Brown, John Metchie, and Robert Woods are the next wideouts on the team's depth chart after rookie standout Tank Dell sustained a season-ending leg injury last week.

Houston's defense was banged up in the defeat, too. Linebacker Blake Cashman wasn't able to resume playing after suffering a hamstring injury, while pass-rusher Will Anderson suffered an ankle ailment late in the game.

The injuries coincided with Jets quarterback Zach Wilson having one of the best games of his career. Wilson finished the victory with 301 yards and two touchdowns on 27-of-36 passing. His 117.9 passer rating is the highest he's posted since he was selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft.

Houston was out-gained in total yards 347-135 and averaged a meager 2.6 yards per play.

Both clubs face division opponents in Week 15. The Texans will battle the Tennessee Titans, while the Jets will look to build a winning streak when they take on the Miami Dolphins.
