49ers' Purdy: McCaffrey should be NFL MVP
San Francisco 49ers Brock Purdy says the NFL MVP plays for his team, but he believes the award should go to teammate Christian McCaffrey.
"I think Christian should be MVP," Purdy said after Sunday's 45-29 win over the Arizona Cardinals, according to NFL Network's Omar Ruiz. "I really do believe that. He does everything for us, runs the ball well, catches the ball, he does everything. So, in my eyes, that's an MVP."
Purdy, who has been among the leading favorites for the prestigious honor, enjoyed a four-touchdown day against the Cardinals. However, it was McCaffrey who stole the show. The star running back compiled 187 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.
The two-time Pro Bowler has now totaled 1,801 yards from scrimmage and 20 total touchdowns.
When asked to assess himself as an MVP candidate, Purdy shifted the praise back on his teammates.
"I'm honored," Purdy said. "Great team around me and guys willing to make plays, so I'm trying to do my part and help our team win."
Purdy has thrown for 17 touchdowns to two interceptions over the last six games, all wins for the 49ers.
San Francisco moved to 11-3 on Sunday and clinched a second consecutive NFC West title.
