The New York Giants inserted Tyrod Taylor into the lineup to open the second half of the team's 33-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, leaving starter Tommy DeVito on the bench.

Taylor took over after the Eagles fumbled the opening kickoff of the second half. Running back Saquon Barkley quickly scored a rushing touchdown with Taylor under center.

New York struggled to move the ball in the first half, particularly through the air. DeVito completed nine of 16 passes for 55 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.

"Constant reminder that it's a business," DeVito said postgame in response to the benching. "They're always going to try to find someone to replace you, whatever it is. ... It's a business, it's your job, I respect it. There's no feelings one way or another. I was hoping Ty was going to go out there and ball and we win the game."

The undrafted free agent has started five games and appeared in seven for the Giants this season. He had 1,032 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions entering Monday's contest. He also owned 190 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Taylor has also started games for the Giants this season, taking the opening snaps in three contests. The 34-year-old had 592 passing yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions entering Monday.

Jalen Hurts threw for 301 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the win. He also ran for 34 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. The rushing score was Hurts' 15th of the campaign, a single-season NFL record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.

Running back D'Andre Swift led the way on the ground for the Eagles with 92 yards and a score while Kenneth Gainwell added 41 yards on six attempts.

The loss drops the Giants to 5-10 with a contest against the Los Angeles Rams and a rematch against the Eagles on deck.

Philly, meanwhile, improved to 11-4. The Eagles will take on the Arizona Cardinals before the Week 18 rematch.
