Chiefs' Kelce rips 'embarrassing' loss to Raiders
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce voiced his disappointment with his team's struggles following Monday's 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
"It's a frustrating f-----g experience right now," Kelce said on the "New Heights" podcast.
The Chiefs - who are 2-4 in their last six games - once again struggled offensively in Week 16 and failed to score 20-plus points for the third time in their last four games. Kansas City's offense has dropped the most passes in the NFL this season while ranking sixth in penalties.
Andy Reid's outfit outscored the Raiders in yards on Monday (308-205) but lost the turnover battle 2-0. Las Vegas defeated Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium despite not completing a single pass in the second half.
"We handed that team a win on Christmas, we literally played Santa and gave them a present," Kelce said. "That was embarrassing, everybody in the building knows how embarrassing that was."
He added: "We played so trash as an offense that we put the defense in a really tough spot there at the end of the game."
The reigning Super Bowl champions haven't been able to win games despite boasting their best defense of the Patrick Mahomes era. The Chiefs' defensive unit ranks second in points and yards allowed in 2023.
Kelce thinks every Chiefs player deserves to be blamed for the team's current struggles, including himself.
"It's not just one guy," the tight end said. "It's not just me playing like dogshit. It's not just us not being able to get the run game going. It's not just us not being on the same page passing-wise. Everybody's in this f-----g thing together. Everybody, at some point, isn't being accountable."
The 34-year-old added: "Every single play is somebody not doing their job, and it's me ... it's everybody on the team. And whether that's prep, whether that's having the confidence and understanding of what the defense is in, their coverages, their gaps in the run game, how we're picking up blitzes, how we're running routes versus certain coverages. All the above."
The 9-6 Chiefs - who are one win away from winning the AFC West for the eighth straight season - take on the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers in the final two games of the regular season.
