Patrick Mahomes' father arrested on suspicion of DWI
Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested in Tyler, Texas, on Saturday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to ESPN.
Mahomes Sr. is facing a charge of driving while intoxicated for a third time or more. He was released from Smith County jail Sunday afternoon, and his bond was set at $10,000.
According to state law, the charge is a third-degree felony and carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison if Mahomes Sr. is convicted, per ESPN.
Court records state that Mahomes Sr. had a previous DWI charge in 2018. The 53-year-old pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 40 days in jail. He served the time on weekend days to fulfill his requirement between February 2019 and February 2020.
The Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas on Feb. 11. Kansas City is trying to become the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles since the New England Patriots (2003 and 2004).
