Report: Giants' Waller considering retirement
New York Giants tight end Darren Waller is considering retirement, according to Paul Schwartz and Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post.
Waller reportedly expressed to individuals in the Giants organization that he was contemplating retirement after the end of the 2023 season.
The Giants were optimistic about Waller returning to the club for a second season after speaking with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. However, it appears the former Pro Bowler hasn't made a final decision.
"I have not made a decision either way," Waller told Schwartz and Dunleavy.
The veteran tight end has a $14.1-million cap hit for the 2024 season.
Waller endured a difficult campaign, missing five games due to a hamstring injury and contending with subpar quarterback play. He caught 52 passes for 552 yards and one touchdown. His receiving yardage ranked second on the team, trailing only Darius Slayton (770 yards).
Waller joined the Giants from the Las Vegas Raiders prior to the 2023 campaign.
The 31-year-old, who also suffered hamstring injuries during his time with the Raiders, is seeking his first 1,000-yard campaign since 2020.
