Worthy breaks 40-yard dash record with 4.21s run
Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy stole the show Saturday when he set the NFL Scouting Combine's 40-yard dash record with a 4.21-second sprint.
Worthy ran an unofficial 4.25 on his first attempt but used his second run to chase down the previous record of 4.22, set by John Ross at the 2017 combine. Ross was eventually selected No. 9 overall in the draft.
Worthy erupted with excitement after the initial unofficial time for his second attempt clocked him tying the record. However, the official result made the 20-year-old the solo record holder.
Worthy took the top time easily among the receivers, but plenty posted impressive runs. Below are the wideouts who recorded a 4.45 or better.

The receiver group was exceptionally fast and generally outpaced the running backs who did the 40-yard dash earlier in the day.
Only Florida State's Keon Coleman (4.61) and Illinois' Isaiah Williams (4.63) put up times over 4.6 seconds for the wideouts. However, Coleman reached the fastest top speed of any receiver over the last two years during the gauntlet drill.
