Report: Lions to add Zeitler on 1-year deal
The Detroit Lions are expected to sign guard Kevin Zeitler to a one-year deal pending a physical, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Zeitler made the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2023 while playing for the Baltimore Ravens. The 34-year-old was particularly effective in pass protection, allowing just two sacks on 574 pass-blocking snaps, per PFF.
Since entering the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2012 draft, Zeitler has been a steady presence. He's played at least 12 games every year, including 15 each of the last two seasons. In addition, the 6-foot-4, 340-pounder has played at least 92% of the offensive snaps while healthy.
The Lions needed a new guard after Jonah Jackson signed with the Los Angeles Rams in the opening days of free agency.
Detroit's offensive line was one of the league's best units in 2023, leading the offense to a No. 3 overall ranking in total yards per game (394.8) and the No. 5 spot in points per contest (27.1).
