Patriots, Barmore ink 4-year extension worth up to $92M
The New England Patriots and interior defensive lineman Christian Barmore have agreed on a four-year contract extension worth up to $92 million, his agent told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Mike Reiss.
The deal, which signs Barmore through the 2028 season, includes $41.8 million in guaranteed money, reports ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Barmore's new contract is the second-largest in Patriots history, only behind Tom Brady, notes Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.
Barmore - a second-round pick in 2021 - was entering the last year of his rookie contract in 2024. His new average annual salary of $23 million ranks eighth among defensive tackles, according to Spotrac. Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs tops the position with $31.7 million.
The Alabama product is a cornerstone of the Patriots' defense and is coming off his best NFL season. He set career highs with 64 tackles (13 for loss), 16 QB hits, and 8.5 sacks in 2023.
The 24-year-old has racked up 32 quarterback hits and 12.5 sacks in 44 appearances since entering the NFL.
