Bills sign Chase Claypool
The Buffalo Bills signed veteran wide receiver Chase Claypool to a one-year contract on Friday, the team announced.
Claypool, 25, played for the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins in 2023. He began last season with Chicago before being traded to Miami in October. The Canadian pass-catcher - who recently had a free-agent visit with the Seattle Seahawks - finished the campaign with only eight receptions for 77 yards and one touchdown.
A second-round pick in 2020, Claypool had a promising start to his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, topping 55 catches and 800 receiving yards in each of his first two pro campaigns. He also scored 11 scrimmage touchdowns as a rookie. However, the Notre Dame product hasn't been able to replicate that production since he was traded from Pittsburgh to Chicago. The wideout made 10 appearances and scored only one TD with the Bears, who originally acquired him in a trade in November 2022.
There was speculation that the Dolphins would move the 6-foot-4, 238-pound pass-catcher to tight end last year, but Miami ultimately kept him at wide receiver.
Adding weapons for quarterback Josh Allen has been a top priority for Buffalo this offseason after the team traded Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in March. The AFC East club also lost Gabe Davis to free agency.
The Bills recently used a second-round pick on wide receiver Keon Coleman and signed free-agent wideouts Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins.
On Friday, Buffalo also officially announced the signings of defensive end Dawuane Smoot and linebacker Deion Jones.
