Star defensive tackle Chris Jones made it clear that the Kansas City Chiefs are aiming to make history by becoming the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

"When a lot of players retire, they always say that they want to leave the game better than they started," Jones said Sunday, according to NFL.com's Michael Baca. "If we can get this three-peat and continue to adding legacy to the Kansas City Chiefs, I think that would be a huge accomplishment, not only for us but for the NFL."

The Chiefs became the league's first back-to-back champions this past season since the 2003-04 New England Patriots. Kansas City has captured three Super Bowl titles over the past five years.

"Last year's team was successful in accomplishing the overall goal of winning a championship, and this year is all about new challenges," Jones said. "We got a lot of new guys, a lot of new challenges ahead of us, and we are excited for it."

The reigning champions return with most of their core intact, including Jones, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce. Although Kansas City suffered some key departures, including cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, rookie speedster Xavier Worthy has been turning heads at the start of camp.

Jones earned his second straight first-team All-Pro nod in 2023 after recording 29 QB hits, 13 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks. The 30-year-old earned his fifth Pro Bowl nod after helping the Chiefs hold opponents to 17.3 points per game (second in the NFL).

Kansas City will begin its quest for a three-peat Sept. 5 versus the Baltimore Ravens.
