Former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles announced his retirement Thursday after an 11-year playing career.

Foles will end his career as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, the team he entered the NFL with and guided to victory in Super Bowl LII. The franchise will honor Foles during its home opener on Sept. 16.

A third-round pick of the Eagles in 2012, Foles is most remembered for his improbable yet heroic run in 2017 when he stepped in for an injured Carson Wentz and led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl championship.

With Wentz lost for the season in Week 14, Foles enjoyed a playoff run for the ages. He completed 72.6% of his passes for 971 yards, six touchdowns, and just one interception over three postseason games.

Foles saved his best performance for last as he outdueled Tom Brady in Super Bowl LII. The Eagles quarterback completed 28 of his 43 passes for 373 yards with three touchdowns and one pick in the 41-33 victory. However, his most memorable play came when he was on the receiving end of a touchdown after catching a pass from tight end Trey Burton just before halftime in a play now known as "The Philly Special." Foles is the only player to catch and throw a touchdown in a Super Bowl.

Foles' lone Pro Bowl came during his second season in 2013 when he led the Eagles to a division title. He compiled an 8-2 record with 27 touchdowns to two interceptions. Foles also tied the NFL record with seven touchdown passes in a Week 9 victory over the Oakland Raiders.

The 35-year-old also played for the St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and Indianapolis Colts over his career. Foles' last NFL appearance came in 2022 with the Colts.
