Philadelphia Eagles defensive back James Bradberry suffered a lower leg injury at practice Wednesday and is expected to miss about six-to-eight weeks, sources told Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The injury won't require surgery, Rapoport and Pelissero add, but Philadelphia placed the veteran on injured reserve to start the season, the team announced Thursday. Bradberry made the club's initial 53-man roster after speculation he could be traded or cut ahead of Tuesday's deadline.

Philadelphia did speak to teams about a possible trade, sources told Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Those teams included the Tennessee Titans, McLane reports, where former Eagles defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson is now the defensive coordinator.

Bradberry is listed as a safety on Philadelphia's depth chart and took most of his training camp reps at that position. He has been a cornerback for his entire eight-year career.

The 31-year-old struggled last season, allowing 740 yards and 11 touchdowns in coverage, per Pro Football Reference. Philadelphia made numerous moves this offseason to help bolster its secondary, including selecting Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean with their first two selections in this year's draft.

Bradberry is under contract through the 2025 campaign.
