Vikings' Greenard: We started to feel bad for Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones' play in the New York Giants' season-opening loss to the Minnesota Vikings evoked boos from fans and even pity from the opposing defense, according to Vikings pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard.
"Man, when we heard the boos raining in, we're like 'okay, now we're good on our side,'" Greenard said on KFAN's "The Power Trip" show. "But when they got really loud to where it was as loud as a third down should be when they're on defense, it was kind of bad. We kind of started to feel a little bit bad for him as we're still just completely just taking away everything that he wants to do."
Jones struggled massively and was unable to lead his offense to the end zone in the 28-6 loss. The Giants signal-caller completed only 22 of his 42 passes for 186 yards and two interceptions, with one returned for a touchdown. Jones was also sacked five times.
Greenard took satisfaction that the Vikings didn't waste much time in their plan to disrupt Jones.
"How we were attacking him and understanding like where he's at in his career based on obviously the scheme that he has, whatever contract things (he's got) going on. So, we understand he's dealing with a lot, and if we can add another aspect of pressure onto the guy to make him speed up his reads a little bit more, make sure that he's not going to get confident and comfortable back in the pocket. Man, it was a great feeling to see it on the first couple drives."
Jones is in the midst of a four-year, $160-million contract he signed in March 2023. Since signing the deal, the 27-year-old has thrown two touchdowns to eight interceptions over seven starts.
