Giants' Nabers laments 4th-down drop vs. Commanders, 0-2 start
New York Giants receiver Malik Nabers is dwelling on a crucial drop despite his breakout performance in his team's Week 2 loss to the Washington Commanders.
Nabers dropped a pass on fourth-and-4 at Washington's 22-yard line with 2:09 remaining in the game. The Giants left their offense on the field with kicker Graham Gano sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
"It's hard to wash that kind of thing away," Nabers said, according to the New York Post's Ryan Dunleavy. "Once you look back on the record, you are going to feel like one of those losses was mine. I'm going to continue to move forward, get better and work on how I cannot drop that pass again."
The drop was the lone blemish on the afternoon for Nabers, who recorded 10 receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown in his second pro game. The wideout's 18 targets represent the most for a rookie since Puka Nacua was targeted 20 times in Week 2 last season.
The 21-year-old hauled in five catches for 66 yards on seven targets in his regular-season debut against the Minnesota Vikings.
Nabers' teammates were quick to praise his Week 2 performance.
"I think it's pretty obvious we wouldn't be in the position we were in without the game he played," quarterback Daniel Jones said postgame.
The LSU product remains optimistic about the Giants' fortunes despite their winless record thus far.
"Adversity is going to hit, but how you overcome it is the main thing," Nabers said.
New York will hit the road in Week 3 to play the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
