Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is officially out for the team's Week 3 contest against the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced Saturday.
Mixon was previously listed as doubtful due to an ankle injury.
Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale are expected to see more reps with Mixon sidelined. The team is also elevating running back J.J. Taylor for the contest.
The Vikings' defense has allowed 88 rushing yards per game through two contests. That mark ranks eighth in the NFL.
Mixon, 28, has played 61% of the Texans' offensive snaps through two games, tallying 184 rushing yards and a touchdown. He's also added 44 yards on six receptions.
Interior offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson was also ruled out with a calf ailment.
