Eagles' Gardner-Johnson: Saints aren't Super Bowl contenders
Eagles defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson wasn't impressed by what he saw from the New Orleans Saints during Philadelphia's 15-12 victory Sunday.
While celebrating the triumph postgame, Gardner-Johnson screamed in the locker room that the Saints aren't Super Bowl contenders.
"They ain't no contenders. They're pretenders," Gardner-Johnson said, according to Bridget Concon of NFL Network. "They have (quarterback) Derek Carr, remember that."
The Saints entered Week 3 as arguably the NFL's hottest team after scoring 91 points combined through the first two weeks of the season to start 2-0. However, Philadelphia's defense limited them to 219 total yards and 12 first downs in New Orleans.
Coming off a disappointing Monday night loss, the Eagles lacked consistency on offense for most of their matchup against the Saints. However, a pair of long clutch plays by running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Dallas Goedert helped Philly claim a narrow win to improve to 2-1.
Gardner-Johnson also took to social media to take shots at Saints players.
Gardner-Johnson finished Week 3 with eight tackles and a pass breakup. The 26-year-old - who joined Philly for a second stint with the team this past offseason - played his first three NFL seasons for the Saints before being traded to the Eagles in 2022.
"They got rid of me, I ain't get rid of them," Gardner-Johnson said. "It's still in me."
