Commanders' Quinn: I don't want Daniels to feel 'ghosts' of past QBs

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn doesn't want the weight of the franchise's track record with quarterbacks to be on passer Jayden Daniels' shoulders.

Daniels electrified the Commanders faithful with his best game as an NFL pro Monday night, completing 91.3% of his passes for 254 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in a 38-33 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He also scored a rushing TD.

"I definitely understand our fan base has been waiting for the franchise QB, but I also don't want Jayden feeling any ghosts," Quinn said, according to ESPN's John Keim.

Quinn added, "Making sure he understands there's only one name on the back of that jersey, and that's for him."

Daniels has led the Commanders to a 2-1 record with two touchdowns, no interceptions, and three rushing scores.

Robert Griffin III was the last quarterback to excite the fan base with a stellar rookie season in 2012, but his career never progressed from there. Since then, the franchise has seen signal-callers like Dwayne Haskins and Sam Howell fail to meet expectations as well as a revolving door of uninspiring veterans.

Quinn cautions against comparing Daniels to anyone else.

"I don't want to compare him to anybody but him because he's still growing, and quite honestly, I can't wait to see who he's becoming," Quinn added.

Washington will be searching for a third consecutive victory in Week 4 when it takes on the Arizona Cardinals on the road.
