Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton downplayed his viral exchange with rookie quarterback Bo Nix on the sideline during Sunday's 34-18 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Cameras showed Payton and Nix having a spirited conversation in the second half after Denver punted the ball.

"There's a little bit of Ferris Bueller in this player that we got to get rid of," Payton said postgame, per KOA. "Talking about Bo. I love him to death. Sometimes, it's my love language."

In the 1986 movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," Bueller is a high-school student who plays hooky from school with his best friend and girlfriend.

"Ferris was kind of quirky, doing his own thing once in a while ... He's still got a little Ferris Bueller in him. He's got some," Payton added.

Nix also downplayed the sideline incident postgame.

"He told me he loved me. I told him I loved him back," the first-year QB said, according to The Athletic's Nick Kosmider.

The 2024 No. 12 overall pick posted a strong performance Sunday, completing 19 of 27 pass attempts for 206 yards and two touchdowns. He added nine yards and one TD on the ground to help Denver win its third straight game after starting the season 0-2.

The Broncos play the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6.
