49ers' Pearsall set to return to practice
San Francisco 49ers' first-round rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall is slated to return to practice Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced Friday, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner.
Once Pearsall practices, the 49ers have 21 days to activate him off the non-football injury list. The rookie was sidelined after being shot during an attempted robbery in central San Francisco on Aug. 31.
Shanahan said he'll take a cautious approach with Pearsall when the wideout steps back on the field.
"Most likely, I would think it'd be a longer ramp-up period, but I think health-wise and everything, he is totally good to go," Shanahan added. "I really won't decide that stuff until we start watching him practice, but we're not going to rush it or anything. If he's ready, he's ready, and if he's not, we've got a few weeks."
While the 49ers will be getting back their 2024 first-round pick, they'll have to wait a bit longer for Christian McCaffrey's return.
Shanahan said McCaffrey's "continuing to improve" but that the team won't open the reigning Offensive Player of the Year's practice window next week.
McCaffrey, who's on the injury report, has yet to play this season due to Achilles tendinitis. The 49ers running back is reportedly dealing with the injury in both legs, and his return date is unclear. McCaffrey has flown to Germany to get treatment for the issue.
San Francisco has dealt with the injury bug this season, with McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle, and receiver Deebo Samuel all missing time at various points. Running back Jordan Mason, who enters the weekend as the league's leading rusher, also suffered a sprained AC joint in Thursday's win over the Seattle Seahawks.
The 49ers enter Week 7 with a 3-3 record.
