NFL-NFLPA: Concussion protocol followed correctly with Bills' Allen
The NFL and NFLPA found that the proper concussion protocol steps were followed when Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was cleared to return in a Week 5 loss to the Houston Texans.
"The NFL and NFLPA have reviewed the reports from the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant and booth spotters, and those reports confirm that the steps required by the concussion protocol were followed in the evaluation and clearance of Bills' quarterback Josh Allen in last Sunday's game," the league and union said in a statement Friday.
Allen's head bounced off the ground as he attempted a pass in the fourth quarter of the contest. Trainers looked at him on the field before he headed to the medical tent on the sideline, where he was cleared to return after the Bills got possession.
The NFL and players' union determined that Allen didn't lose consciousness following the hit, matching the conclusion reached by the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultants, booth spotters, and team medical staff, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Allen has led the Bills to a 3-2 record with eight touchdowns, 945 passing yards, and no interceptions across five games. Buffalo takes on the New York Jets on Monday night.
