Lions sign Montgomery to 2-year extension reportedly worth $18.25M
The Detroit Lions have signed running back David Montgomery to a contract extension that locks him up through the 2027 season, the team announced Saturday.
It's a two-year, $18.25-million contract extension with $10.5 million in new guaranteed money, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Montgomery signed a three-year, $18-million deal with Detroit in March 2023. He ran for a team-lead 1,015 yards and 13 touchdowns in 14 games in his first season with the Lions.
The 27-year-old Montgomery and 2023 first-round pick Jahmyr Gibbs helped the Lions rank sixth in rushing yards per game last campaign, and the team sits seventh heading into Week 6.
The Chicago Bears selected Montgomery in the third round of the 2019 draft. He has 271 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 63 carries so far this season.
