Sirianni apologizes for chirping fans
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has had a change of heart about his decision to jaw at fans toward the end of Sunday's home victory over the Cleveland Browns.
"What I was really doing, I was trying to bring energy yesterday, energy, enthusiasm, and I'm sorry and disappointed on how my energy was directed at the end of the game," Sirianni said Monday, according to NBC Sports' Reuben Frank. "And, you know, my energy should be all in on coaching, motivating and celebrating with our guys. And so I've got to have better wisdom and discernment of when to use that energy, and that wasn't the time."
Sirianni described his actions postgame Sunday as "excited" and said players had asked him to be more animated during the team's bye week.
Sirianni said that he could be better at choosing the right time to show emotion.
"I wish there was a playbook on stuff like that," he said. "Make the job a little bit easier to do, but there's not. And so you've got to have the discernment and the wisdom of when to do it."
Philadelphia got back above the .500 mark Sunday as its 20-16 victory moved the franchise to 3-2 on the year. The Eagles have struggled to find an identity this season - their offense ranks 18th in scoring while their defense sits 14th in points allowed.
