Report: Steelers to start Wilson vs. Jets, Fields will also play
The Pittsburgh Steelers are planning to start quarterback Russell Wilson in Week 7 against the New York Jets, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Justin Fields will also play, but Wilson is expected to get most of the snaps, per Rapoport.
Fields started in all six of the Steelers' contests this season, while Wilson rehabbed a calf injury he aggravated in September. The 25-year-old has thrown for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception on 66.3% passing. He's also added 231 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
The start will represent Wilson's first regular-season appearance for the Steelers. The 35-year-old signed with Pittsburgh in the offseason after two underwhelming seasons with the Denver Broncos. Wilson has 43,653 yards, 334 touchdowns, and 106 interceptions in 188 career games.
Head coach Mike Tomlin said Friday that the Steelers were keeping the starting quarterback decision for this week's contest in-house. However, George Pickens has spent more time working with Wilson ahead of the veteran quarterback's first start, the wide receiver told reporters Friday, including ESPN's Brooke Pryor.
