Patriots' Mayo: 'We're a soft football team'
New England head coach Jerod Mayo wasn't happy with the Patriots' effort in their 32-16 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday.
"Disappointing game. ... We're a soft football team across the board," Mayo told reporters postgame.
He added: "They controlled the ball for most of the day. Their run game averaged over four and a half yards a carry. And our run game, not sure what the average was, but it wasn't good."
Jacksonville outgained New England 171-38 on the ground.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, meanwhile, completed 26 of 37 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns in his second career start.
"We're not tough," the rookie said. "Being tough is running the football, stopping the run, and covering kicks ... (Mayo) does a great job of relaying the message to us and the guys know."
After New England went up 10-0 early in the second quarter, Jacksonville answered with 25 points over the next two frames, including a 96-yard punt return late in the first half.
The Patriots fall to 1-6 with the loss. They'll take on the New York Jets in Week 8.
